My Long Absence and an Update on My Life

Hi y'all!
Long time no post, I know! I'm so mad at myself that I've neglected this blog that I love so dearly.
There's no excuse for it but I'd like to explain myself.
When I started this blog I was in a weird place in my life.
I was unhappy at my job and didn't know what I truly wanted to do with my life.
Makeup and hair had always been a passion of mine but I always felt that it could only be a hobby for me and not a career so I put it on the back burner to make the money I thought I needed.

About a year and a half ago I left the company that I was unhappy at and went to one that made grand promises and made me feel like it was the right move. For a while it really was. I was happy with the decision and excited to start my journey there.
Sadly that's when my blog started to lose it's steam.
About a year into my employment there the enjoyment started to fade, it wasn't as wonderful as I was promised it would be (it never is) and I was starting to feel that tug at my heart saying if it's not what you want then move on and do what makes you happy but was scared to take the leap.

Jump to February this year...
At the beginning of this month my entire department at the company I worked for was downsized due to falling oil prices and it really took a toll on me.
Of course I wasn't really happy there anyway but when you're booted out with zero warning, it's a slap in the face and hard to recover from.
I feel like I went through multiple stages of grief.
I'm just now starting to come out the other side.
I'm still having a bit of a pity party every once in a while
but I am attempting to pick up the broken pieces.

With that being said I think it's time for me to start believing in myself and my passion.
I'm a firm believer that there is a greater power pulling the strings upstairs and he's not going to let anything happen to me that he doesn't believe I can't handle.
I've been put on this path for a reason.

I am going to begin posting regularly on here as well as posting to my YouTube channel.
I'm a little nervous about the YouTube thing because of all the negativity but if I'm doing what I love I think I can handle a few rude folks.

I hope that y'all will go on this new adventure with me as I start the life I've always wanted.
Thanks for the support y'all!

My Everday Makeup Essentials

Hi everyone! How is your summer going? I feel like it's been forever since I've written a new post...probably because it's been since March! I am so sorry that it's taken me this long to post something. These last couple of months have just been so busy and stressful. Anyways on to why we're all here! I was trying to think of something to share with y'all and then it hit me...my every day makeup essentials! Since it's starting to heat up I thought I could share the things I reach for every day.

Number one must have...primer!
I used to not believe in primers and some I'm still not convinced are worth it but The POREfessional by Benefit is fantastic! I don't really notice if it helps my makeup last longer but it for sure makes my pores disappear. I don't know what kind of magic they have going on but it's working! I LOVE this stuff! It will always be a staple in my makeup collection.

(the POREfessional by Benefit; $30.00)

It is a little pricey so if you want something a little more budget friendly I've heard that the Pore Filler is a dupe for it and it's only $12.99 at Ulta.

Next we move on to foundation, concealer and powders. I feel like I have searched high and low to find what foundation works for me. I've tried high end and I've tried drugstore brands. For the longest time I just thought there was no hope for me. I have severely dry skin and NOTHING seems to hold up on it. That is until I discovered Revlon Colorstay for Normal/Dry skin! I'm in shade 150 Buff. This stuff is an absolute miracle for me! It hides my dryness so well...I mean I still have a few dry patches but nothing like I did have. The only problem I have with it is that it's a little on the pink side but to fix that I add in a small amount of my Nars Sheer Glow foundation in the shade Deauville and it's a perfect match for me! To set that I use MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in light. It gives a perfect finish to my skin. This combo for me works all day long. For my concealer I use the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade Chantilly. It is exactly what they've named it...creamy. So easy to blend with my fingertips and gives my under eye area a beautiful highlight. To set it I use the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Power and I press it in with a brush...don't swipe.

(L-R MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural; $30.00, Revlon Colorstay; $11.99, Nars Sheer Glow Foundation; $44.00, Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder; $22.00, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, $28.00)

Moving on into bronzer, blush and highlighters. The bronzer I use is a permanent love of mine it's the Hoola bronzer by Benefit. I just use it to warm up the edges for my face and for a little contouring on my nose. When it comes to blush I love to mix it up but lately I have been obsessed with corals. My two favs at the moment are Nars Orgasm and MAC Extra Dimension Blush in Flaming Chic. They are both just gorgeous. Can't go wrong with them! For my highlighting powder I did splurge a little bit but I've had this product for a while and I've barely dusted the surface. It's the Chanel Illuminating Powder from the Spring 2013 collection. It's like a beautiful rose gold color. Stunning!

(L-R Hoola Bronzer by Benefit; $28.00, Chanel Illuminating Powder; no longer available online but you may find it at the Chanel counter, MAC Extra Dimension Blush, $25.00, Nars Blush, $29.00)

On to the eyes. I like to keep the eyes fairly neutral. Sometimes I'll just use my MAC Paint Pot in Painterly and brush on a few coats of mascara and voila! But if I feel like doing more work than that I'll use my Naked Basics palette from Urban Decay. They are just beautiful every day colors. I have a post all about it down below. Lately though my go to absolute favorite eye shadows are from Wet N Wild and they are in the Walking On Eggshells trio. These little suckers are SO pigmented and creamy and the best part is they sell them at the dollar store for like 3 bucks! I recommend you go out and get every trio you see! Haha!

(Wet N Wild trio; no price available online, Naked Basics Palette, $27.00, MAC Paint Pot, $18.50, Anastasia Brow Wiz, $21.00, Benefit They're Real Mascara, $23.00)

For mascara I've rediscovered They're Real by Benefit. I've owned this mascara for a while but when I first purchased it I just didn't see what all the hype was about but since I paid so much for it I didn't want it to just go to waste so I decided to try it again and boy am I glad I did! It makes the base of my lashes look so dark and thick and it give me just the right amount of length. If you're looking for a super dark mascara that gives you fuller looking lashes than give it a try. They also come in a smaller sample size for like 10 bucks. Last thing having to do with eyes are my brows. Thankfully I have pretty thick eyebrows as it is so there's really not much to do to them. I just run the Anastasia Brown Wiz underneath them and then with the brush end just comb it through a little bit. This product is really great for people that are in a hurry but still want perfect brows. They come in a variety of colors and last for quite a while.

Now on to the fun stuff. LIPPIES!!!!
I'm a bit of a "collector" when it comes to lip products. I recently cleaned out my purse and had probably 20 different lippies in my purse. I admit I have a problem. LOL. Maybe I'll do a lipstick and lip gloss collection soon? Anywho...the main products I've been using really affordable options. I have a couple of splurges but they are totally worth it! Every night before I go to bed I use my Murad Lip Protectant and Exfoliater. This helps my lips stay smooth and clean. In the mornings after I put on my foundation and concealer I use my EOS Lip Balm. It smells amazing and gives my lips just enough moisture. Love it! For Spring and Summer months I love to use lip glosses because they are not nearly as high maintenance as lipsticks. You can just swipe them on and go and they're so easy to reapply. The NYX Butter Gloss collection is amazing! Every color is beautiful and there's a wide range of colors. Plus they smell like baked goods and who doesn't like sweets?!?

(L-R Murad Lip Protectant; $17.00, Revlon Lip Butter; $7.49, EOS Lip Balm; $3.49, NYX Butter gloss; $4.99; Nars Larger Than Life Lip Gloss; $26.00)

Now for the last and most important step of all...setting all of these wonderful products to make sure they don't budge!

I have recently been using the All Nighter setting spray from Urban Decay and so far it's working really well. I bought the smaller size to try it out and so far so good. I think next time I'll try the chilling one just to see what it's all about.

(Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray travel size; $14.00, full size; $29.00)

Put it all together and TADA! It's not much but I think it's a perfect look for the summer months when you want your skin to look healthy and glowy.

I really hope that y'all have enjoyed this glimpse into my everyday makeup choices. These truly are the things I wear every single day and they work for me. Do you have a favorite or a holy grail product you use? Let me know!

See ya next time!

XOXO,

What's In My Bag?!?

Happy Hump Day y'all!!!
Is it just me or does this seem like the LONGEST WEEK EVER?!? I think I'm just looking forward to the weekend so I can do some "Spring" cleaning. Which really means going through my closet and taking things out to put in a garage sale. Plus it's daylight savings time so we get to see the sunshine a little longer each day! Who doesn't love that? :)

OK...enough rambling let's get this post started. I've always LOVED seeing other peoples YouTube videos on this topic. I just think it's so cool to see what other women carry in their purse and if you're ANYTHING like me your purse can never be big enough and it always ends up full! I hope you guys enjoy this be sure to let me know what you think.

I just recently purchased this purse. I had fallen in LOVE with it the second I saw it in LollyDolly128s "What's in my bag" video about a month ago but they never had the color "Luggage" in stock at my Dillard's but one day I went in to check and they had this one and I loved it just as much.

This is the Michael Kors Large Hamilton Saffiano Tote in the color Navy. I'm extremely happy with this purchase I like the fact that it's "Saffiano" leather because it makes it soooo much more durable than the soft leather tote. I have a feeling it will hold it's shape a lot better too. Here's the link to check out all the gorgeous Michael Kors collection.

Now on to all the goodies in my purse. :)

Here's a quick peek inside...as you can see it's pretty big. It has 4 inside pockets and 1 large zipper pocket on the side.

When I purchased the purse I also fell in love with the Michael Kors Large Pyramid-Stud Zip Clutch in Navy. I wouldn't normally have spent this much money but I was needing a new wallet and this was the perfect solution. It has credit card slots in it but it also has a strap so if I just need to run in somewhere really quick I can pull this out of my bag and not have to worry about carrying around a heavy purse. Also in my purse I carry my Ray-Ban Clubmaster glasses, Chanel Chance Eau Tendre (which smells amazing BTW) and that polka dot bag is FULL of lip products. I'm not going to bust them all out for this post but I do have a few that I use more than others and they are pictured...they are my Nars Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in "New Lover", Yves Saint Laurent Sheer Candy Glossy Balm Crystal Color in #8 Iced Plum and my favorite lip product at the moment from MAC Cosmetics is my Lipglass from the Archie's Girls collection in "Summer Sweetheart".

The final things that I'm going to show you are what I feel to be the most important. Without these things I couldn't stay very "fresh" lol! I carry my tweezers because you never know when you may find a stray eyebrow hair. My boyfriends mom gave these to me in my Christmas goody bag and I believe they are from Avon. I also carry fingernail clippers because sometimes when I get home at night I'm too tired to clip them. Haha! I also carry Q-Tips, Kleenex and Wet Ones which have all come in handy at some point. I LOVE those Breath Savers 3hr mints because they aren't overpowering like Altoids...those things make me cry every single time. The little striped square you see if a little mirror from Victoria's Secret. I feel that you ALWAYS need a mirror in your bag! And last but certainly NOT least is my Dove Clinical Protection Anti-Perspirant in the scent "original clean" I swear by this stuff guys! I feel like I have searched high and low to find a deodorant that works for me. I always ended up feeling gross throughout the day until I found this stuff. It's a little pricey but it is totally worth it because it smells wonderful and does its job!

So that's it y'all I hope you enjoyed this little look into my "Hermione" bag as some people call it. :) I haven't had this purse that long so I'm sure there will be more things crammed in it pretty soon. I think the next blog post I do will be a complete lipstick/lip gloss collection. Would y'all be interested in seeing something like that? Let me know!

Have a wonderful rest of your week!

XOXO,

A Quick Update...

Hi y'all!

I know I've been missing in action for a little while and I'm so sorry. I wanted to take a minute and explain why.

Life has just been a little hectic lately. I've had to wait for some space in our house to free up so that I can create a filming/photo taking area and that has taken longer than I thought but now we're on track to getting that space created. I'm so excited to get it all set up so that I can start filming tutorials, haul videos and giveaways.

I've made some purchases in the last month that I will probably do a post/video on here in the next week. I was really happy to pick up one of the Urban Decay "Theodora" palettes so hopefully I can do a fun tutorial with that. I've also been trying out several foundations and I'll be giving a review on what has worked best for my super dry skin!

Again I want to apologize for slacking on the posts. I'm going to start creating my new fun makeup space this afternoon and hopefully have some fun stuff up within the next couple of days.

XOXO,

My Thoughts On: Urban Decay Naked Basics

Good morning y'all! I'm so excited to be doing this post. When I first heard about this palette I thought to myself...YAY! An Urban Decay set with everyday matte colors? Sign me up! Of course I had to wait a little longer than I would have liked to because they were selling like hot cakes around here. But I finally snagged one yesterday and I cannot wait to show you.

Here it is!

As you can see the box is very "basic". :)

I was surprised by how small it was. It can easy be thrown in your purse or even in your pocket! I have really small hands and I have no problem holding onto it while I apply my eyeshadow like I do with my Urban Decay Naked palette.

Here you can see how small it really is. I've placed it beside an iPhone 5.

I do have one small gripe about the packaging. It's not really that big of a deal but if you've just gone out and had a fresh mani done you should be careful when you open it. I do find that I have to use my fingernails but maybe with more use it will loosen up a little.

Ok...here comes the fun part. Colors!

Urban Decay describes the palette as...

"Our first MATTE palette, featuring six gorgeously Naked neutrals to build on or wear alone—including four never-before-seen shades."

I agree with them except there is one shade that is slightly shimmery. It's called Venus. It's a gorgeous color though and can be used as a highlighter shade. I think they made a great choice including it in palette. Because you can literally create any look with these shadows for day or night.

Here's a better view of the shadows

I've swatched them on my arm to show you the color pay off. Keep in mind I have extremely fair skin so they may not look the same on you.
(Left to Right: Venus, Foxy, Walk of Shame, Naked 2, Faint, Crave)

Foxy and W.O.S (walk of shame) seem to almost disappear on my skin but these are totally buildable and not to mention my eyelids are not nearly as pale especially with primer. :)

In my personal opinion I think this is a great addition to any girls make-up collection. You can do so many day and night looks with this and it's the perfect size to take with you anywhere. Price wise I think it's fair except it doesn't come with a brush like the other Naked palettes ($27 at Ulta, Sephora, Urban Decay website) but when you get down to it, it's a wonderful product and well worth the money.

I hope that this review has helped you out. If you've purchased it let me know what your opinion is on it. What your favorite shades are. If you're on the fence about it feel free to ask me any questions. Also let me know which shades you'd like to see together in a tutorial.
If you want to purchase the palette i've included a link for you.

See you next time!

xoxo,

       Sunnie

A Little Bit About Me.

Hi everyone! I wanted to take a minute and tell y'all a little bit about me. My name is Sunnie I'm 24, I live in Texas and I've always had a passion for make-up. It's just amazing to me. It can transform you into someone else completely or if you like it can just accentuate the beauty you already have.

On this blog I plan to give you an honest opinion on beauty products. Both high end and drugstore. I firmly believe that price does not matter when it comes to cosmetics. Some of my very favorite eyeshadows are from Walgreens. I also plan to do some tutorials along with other fun videos such as "What's in my Purse" and haul videos. I really hope that some of my opinions can help you. :)

Here are a couple of looks I've done...

This is the look i'm wearing today. I opted to not use any eyeshadow and just do a dramatic lip. This is the color "Retro" by MAC it's a dark color but still very wearable for day to day use. Just be sure to use Chapstick underneath because it can be drying.

This was a very FUN look for me to do. It was my 2012 Halloween make-up. I went as a "doll". I really freaked a lot of people out. This just goes to show you how make-up can totally transform you.

I really hope that you guys enjoy this blog I can't wait to get it up and running full speed! Please check back for updates and videos.

Unitl next time!

XOXO,
                 Sunnie
